Measuring Children’s Brain Activity During Visual and Auditory Attention Tasks
Researchers at Boys Town National Research Hospital are studying brain activity to better understand when children are using attention and when they have a lapse of attention. Your participation will help us learn how brain activity changes as children get older and whether the brain activity underlying visual attention improves at the same rate as brain activity underlying auditory attention.
Who can participate?
Eligible participants:
- Children ages 5 to 9 years old
- Have typical hearing
- Have with normal or corrected-to-normal vision (including red/green colorblindness
- Exposed to American English since birth
Children with intellectual, developmental, or neurological diagnoses (e.g., autism, epilepsy, Down Syndrome) do not qualify.
What will participants do?
Participants will complete one in-person visit lasting around 1.5 to 2 hours.
Children will play games asking you to pay attention to pictures or sounds for a certain amount of time to earn points. We will measure your brain activity using EEG while you play the games.
